Russell (Rusty) Sloane
Lecturer

A native of North Carolina, Russell “Rusty” Sloane received his undergraduate degree from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Immediately upon graduation, he entered service to this country in a career that would span over 21 years. Initially, he served as an officer in the United States Navy earning his designation as both a Surface Warfare Officer and Nuclear Launch Officer. Before being accepted to Navy Flight School, Rusty completed a lateral transition into the United States Coast Guard and served in that capacity for the next seventeen years.
As a military aviator Rusty was involved in numerous overseas deployments, Search and Rescue cases, helped set up the first Rotary Wing Air-to-Air Intercept Squadron, and retired with distinction as the Operations Officer of Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi. Among the numerous decorations he received were three Commendation Medals for intrepid actions, the Antarctic Expeditionary Medal, and the Instructor Pilot qualification.
Post-retirement, Rusty entered the aerospace industry and flourished in the role of Instructor Pilot before entering senior management positions and then leaving to form his own environmental consulting business. During this period, he earned his MBA from The Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys obstacle course events, kayaking, paddleboarding, and, much to the chagrin of his children, camping at historical sites.
Rusty is the proud father of four daughters, three of whom live with him and his wife, Luckie, just outside of San Antonio, Texas. He and his family feel blessed to be given the opportunity to grow closer to the Baylor family in this new position.
